John R. Stowe, Co-founder and Director

John R. Stowe

John is the official Do Everything Else Officer (DEO) at The Cat Hospital of Orlando; whatever the responsibility, if not directly related to feline medicine, is John's forte. He received his bachelor's degree in philosophy from University of Central Florida. He also holds a master's license from the United States Coast Guard as a merchant mariner. He and Dr. Sumerlin met at a dive shop where John was operating a business on a charter boat captain as a dive instructor. John's other interests include reading and music. Together, he and Dr. Sumerlin have owned and operated The Cat Hospital since its inception.

Roy Maldonado, Practice Manager

Roy Maldonado

Practice Manager Roy Maldonado joined The Cat Hospital of Orlando in 2004. He enjoys learning new things about animal care and is proud of the high-quality medicine offered at the hospital. Outside of work, Roy enjoys playing tennis, camping and spending time with friends. He shares his home with Willie, a green-checked conure.

Patti Singleton, Receptionist

Patti Singleton

Patti has been employed in the animal field for over 20 years. She joined the animal care team at The Cat Hospital of Orlando in 2002. Patti says, "Our clients often become our friends. It's great getting a chance to get to know clients and their pets." She says that her co-workers are outstanding and the owners of the hospital truly care about their employees. At home, Patti has three dogs and one cat that thinks he's a dog. She enjoys playing with her dogs, seeing her grandkids, playing video games, and watching baseball and football.

Carisa, Veterinary Technician


Originally from Iowa, Carisa has called Altamonte Springs home since 2008. She joined The Cat Hospital of Orlando in October of 2012. Carisa's talents are a huge asset to the hospital, as she is able to work as one of our receptionists and as an animal care giver in our boarding area. She often is asked to assist our groomer Mary with the more challenging coiffures. Carisa has a great smile for everyone she meets.

Carisa graduated from Lyman High School and is now a student at Seminole College. She has two "fur babies" (a term endeared to us all) named Raisin and Piper who are loved and spoiled to the max!

Tiffany, Veterinary Technician


Tiffany started at The Cat Hospital of Orlando in July 2015. This is her first job in the animal care field. She grew up with all sorts of animals, mostly cats, and loves helping animals out when in need. Tiffany says, "Coming to work here makes it seem like it's not a job because it's my passion." At home, Tiffany has three cats named Scratch, Salvador and Sylvester. She enjoys teaching them tricks such as sit, lay down, and stay. Her hobbies include playing the drums, gardening and cooking. In her free time, Tiffany enjoys swimming, taking walks with her 3-year-old niece, watching movies and helping her family out with chores and yard work.

Jake, Certified Veterinary Technician


Jake is a certified veterinary technician who joined the staff in September 2016. Originally from the Midwest, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 2001 through 2005 and has been involved in veterinary medicine from 2008 through the present. "I learned my trade as a Vet Tech in the Midwest, and have been fortunate to learn from several great teachers and have been exposed many different aspects of veterinary medicine. It is exciting being around feline patients and especially their owners," he says. In his spare time, Jake enjoys reading, golfing, canoeing and spending time outdoors with his wife, their two dogs, two cats, a pair of rabbits and their horse named Bailie.

Mary Soper, Groomer

Mary Soper

A groomer with almost 40 years of experience in the animal care field, Mary Soper has been part of the Cat Hospital of Orlando since 1996. She loves working with animals and is proud to be part of the hospital. Mary has worked as a breeder and groomer and spent many years showing Irish setters. Her family includes two cats, Ty and Milo, and a golden retriever named Maggie.

Shawn D. Mañana, Receptionist


Shawn D. Mañana is a full-time receptionist at Cat Hospital of Orlando. She enjoys working at a cat only practice, a place she describes as having a "very family oriented atmosphere." At home, Shawn has a Maine coon mix named Sebastian, two Siberian huskies named Prince and Sky and a solid paint horse named Princess. Her hobbies include horseback riding and hiking. In her free time, Shawn enjoys going to comedy places, listening to comedy shows over the radio, reading and learning new languages.

Shalin Browning, Kennel Technician


Shalin Browning is a kennel technician at the Cat Hospital of Orlando. Her responsibilities include feeding the cats at the kennel, keeping their cages clean, making sure all our boarders remain in good health, and providing plenty of love. Shalin says, "I really like the employees and how well everyone gets along. Everyone tries their best to make sure they have done everything possible to help our clients and patients."

At home, Shalin has 5-year-old pit bull named Karma and a 1-year-old wiener/terrier mix named Sebastian. She spends her free time baking, fishing, and walking and playing with her dogs.
