Dr. M. Alexandra Sumerlin has over 33 years of experience in veterinary medicine. Having completed her Veterinary Degree at the University of Missouri School of Veterinary Medicine in 1983, Dr. Sumerlin has been practicing veterinary medicine in Central Florida since 1985. During the course of her early career, she developed a special interest in feline medicine. In 1991 Dr. Sumerlin and co-founder/spouse John Stowe decided the time was right to open a feline exclusive hospital in the Orlando area. In February of 1992, The Cat Hospital of Orlando opened for business serving the Central Florida community.

In the mid to late 1990’s Dr. Sumerlin was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) most likely brought on by Lyme Disease, but she continued to work and expand the practice of feline healthcare. By 2010 Dr. Sumerlin’s MS symptoms had worsened to the extent that they prevented her from actively practicing medicine.

Since that time she has remained active in the practice as a consultant and mentor. She continues to provide support to the doctors and staff on a regular basis and remains a member of AVMA, AAPF and AAHA.
